David Barker & Associates Ltd.(DBA) is a forestry and environmental services consulting company based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Since 1992, the company has been assisting national and international clients in the following areas:
- Environmental auditing and consulting (natural resources sector): schemes: ISO 14001, Forest Stewardship Council, SFI and CSA (SFM). Sustainability and biodiversity assessments.
- Consulting to assist organizations developing an environmental management system (EMS).
- Investment research and analysis to organizations creating forest projects in Latin America (Spanish speaking).
- Timber valuation in Canada (mostly in British Columbia) and overseas.
- Watershed analysis (resource and transportation development impacts on watersheds).
- Forest management planning, including forest inventory.
- Agroforestry economics.
- Spanish speaking.
DBA has managed a variety of sizes of projects. For example, during 2002, DBA led two teams of auditors, four each on two large forest independent audits of two Ontario forests, Sapawe and Crossroute. One of the forests was 1.6 million ha.
In one example of forest valuation, DBA managed and conducted the valuation of over 50 properties owned by a major forest products company on the west coast of Canada. In another, David Barker analysed timber value for areas to be transferred to parks (e.g. Pacific Rim National Park and other smaller parks). He has provided forest valuations on a variety of property sizes and locations, both coastal and interior. DBA currently manages a Managed Forest on Vancouver Island, including planning and execution of harvesting operations.
Internationally, DBA focuses on Latin America, especially Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. David Barker & Associates Ltd. assisted one of Canada’s largest reforestation organizations in the due diligence and subsequent development of several reforestation projects in Central America. We work with companies, governments, individuals and First Nations for the successful completion of a variety of projects.
